The homeowner is the great granddaughter of Seattle businessman, William Perkins. In 1865, Perkins, (along with A.A. Denny, L.V. Wykoff and John Ross) began raising capital to fund a wagon roadway to stretch from North Bend over Snoqualmie Pass, to connect Western and Eastern Washington. Perkins was eventually awarded the contract for roadwork, where he and his men built the first 25 miles of the most difficult section of the road, which would later become Snoqualmie Pass. Over time, grassroots community groups were able to expand the adjacent Yellowstone Trail Road to span from Seattle to Boston. This achievement opened the Pacific Northwest to automobile travel including a main route to the famed Yellowstone National Park from both the east and west coasts.
